CD #0045 Mona Burmann : Schumann@Home

With the CD Schumann@Home, soprano Mona Burmann presents a three-CD album featuring various song cycles by Robert Schumann and an audio play, which she produced together with sound engineer Reinhard Kobialka during the recording period.

It was the youthful naturalness of Mona Burmann’s interpretation that fascinated composer Maria de Alvear from the very beginning. This inspired the idea that these songs might have sounded this way in Schumann’s time, when they were performed by women or young people from upper-class families. This idea became the starting point for the project.

For the recording, Burmann was accompanied by four renowned pianists: Gabriella Karácsonyi, Kristi Becker, Pi-hsien Chen, and Juan Carlos Garvayo.

In addition to Schumann’s major song cycles, such as Dichterliebe, Frauenliebe und -leben, and the song cycles Op. 24 and Op. 39, Mona Burmann—inspired by Maria de Alvear—presents another unusual interpretation of Schumann’s songs on the third CD: Schumann Comes Home is an audio play written and performed by Mona Burmann, in which she integrates Schumann’s songs into her personal everyday soundscape, creating an intimate and unusual listening experience.
