CD #0046 Robert HP Platz : Weiter… - orchestral works
"Something that had its point of departure in a far-reaching, strict order of form and material [...] is, in the end, put in its proper place by the poetry of the music. All mathematics and science dissolve under the impression of an enchanting lyrical diversity." (Raoul Mörchen)
As a composer, ensemble founder and conductor of over 300 world premieres, Robert HP Platz holds an exceptional position in contemporary music.
On the occasion of his 75th birthday, MARIA DE ALVEAR WORLD EDITION honors him with the double album WEITER …, which brings together six of his compositions for large ensembles in outstanding recordings, as well as two encores composed specifically for these works.
As a young composer, Robert HP Platz made a groundbreaking decision that would shape his entire oeuvre: Each piece stands on its own and is, at the same time, part of a larger meta-work. Based on a shared “mother scale,” the compositions interlock, branch out, connect, and overlap to form a complex polyphonic structure.
The polyphonic nature of his music reflects a boundary-crossing artistic horizon that brings together influences and concepts from a wide variety of spheres – from literature and the visual arts to Japanese gardens and the tea ceremony. For Robert HP Platz, polyphony is more than simply a compositional principle: it embodies a deeply humanistic approach, which, in his own words, is ‘respecting others in all their diversity and recognising their dignity.’
The works on this double album span a period of more than three decades.
